East Herts District Council have embarked on an ambitious masterplan on the edge of Bishop’s Stortford town centre.

The development which will include 5,500 square metre modern multi-purpose arts and entertainment venue containing a 550-seat theatre, four-screen cinema, 4,000 square metres commercial/retail space, enhanced public realm including a new town square, and 137 homes.
The proposal represents the opportunity to deliver long-term benefits to the people of Bishop’s Stortford. Currently occupied by surface car parking and an unsympathetic office building, the ambitious masterplan provides a natural extension to the historic urban core. A network of high-quality pedestrian-friendly streets integrate the scheme within the wider context and improve connectivity between the town’s historic high streets, Castle Park, and Sworder’s Fields.
We provided bid support to Cityheart Ltd at competition stage, offering advice on costs, programme and design. Now that the team have been appointed our role will move to managing the development of the design, obtaining planning consent and building out the scheme.
